My older sister, Rebecca, who has been married to Norman Baron for over 13 years, gave birth to a sweet baby girl named Kayla a few weeks ago. This was the first time they were able to get pregnant (they also have two beautiful children whom they adopted 3-4 years ago). So all three of her kids are little miracles.

My younger sister, Rachel, had her second little girl yesterday in Taiwan. Her name is Eliza. She was a whopping 9 pounds, 4 ounces. I haven’t seen her picture, but I’m sure she’s a beautiful one, too.

So our family is rejoicing at having three new beautiful girls who will all be close cousins (we think).

Laurel went to the doctor a couple days ago, and she had started to dilate a little. Yesterday she wasn’t having many contractions, so she spent the day rearranging things in our home, went to lunch with her friend Cami, and watched me play softball. She felt OK physically. We stayed up till about midnight rearranging things a little more. Well, around 1 AM she started having contractions. They came regularly enough and were hard enough that by about 2:30 AM she decided it was time to go to the hospital. Actually, during that time she got up and took a shower, so when we arrived at the hospital, I think the receptionist was skeptical that she was really in labor because she looked so nice. They evaluated her and found that she was dilated more and confirmed she was having contractions every 3-6 minutes. We got up and walked around for about 15 minutes, and she kept having contractions with increasing intensity. So they talked to the on-call doctor and decided to admit her. So now she’s dilated to about 3.5, and they’ve given her an epidural already.

The picture below was taken just barely. She looks great, doesn’t she? This experience so far has been calmer than I expected, but part of that I’m sure is that she is a good sport. And I’m sure it will get less calm as we go.

One year ago today, June 11, 2007, Laurel and I became engaged to be married. Two months later, on August 11, 2007, we were married in the Salt Lake Temple. We were both anxious to “start our family,” and we were fortunate that Laurel became pregnant within 6-7 weeks (we found out on October 11, 2007). Laurel is now 8 1/2 months pregnant. We went to the doctor today, and she’s starting to progress a little, so I’ll keep you posted.

It’s interesting how things can change so quickly. We’ve enjoyed the last year a lot, and we’re anxious for the next stage to come as well.
