44 Miles Per Hour
I’ve been trying to ride my bike home from school once or twice a week. It’s about an 18-20 mile trip, which is why I only go one way. But it’s invigorating to be in the open air and to get up some speed. Today when riding home I was coming down from the foothills on 4500 South in Holladay where there is a very steep downhill. On the side of the road was one of those speed limit signs that has a radar on it to tell you how fast you are going. When I went by, it said I was going 44 miles per hour. Not sure if it picked me up perfectly as a biker, but it said the car in front of me was going 43, and I was pretty much keeping up with it. So I don’t know if I should admit this on a public place like this, but the speed limit was 40 mph. So I may have been breaking the law on my bike. Other than feeling bad about that, it was pretty fun, I have to admit.

Now that sounds like a good time! Nice way to enjoy this beautiful weather. So, do you find that drivers are courteous and aware of bikers?

For the most part they are courteous. You just have to make sure and be defensive and assume they can’t see you.

I know whenever I see a person on a bike, I try to remember all of the bike signals. Ex. right turn, left turn…etc. I admire you, I know it would make me nervous to ride on busier roads. See you guys tonight

Do you wear a helmet? I’d be worried about crashing going that fast.

In fact, I’d probably wear full body armor to go that fast on a bicycle.

Yeah, I always wear a helmet.
