Comprehensive Exams
This week was important for me because I passed my comprehensive exams for the first year of school! This means I am officially a PhD student.
The first was a written test that took 12 hours to complete. (It wasn’t supposed to take so long, but they were experimenting with a new test format, and it took us longer than expected.)
The second was an oral test in front of about 12 faculty members. I said a few things that were wrong, but overall I felt confident in front of them.
I’m glad to be able to move on to the next phase. I have completed 30 credit hours so far. This summer (and until I finish) I will be focusing on research projects. And next academic year I’ll take 10-20 credit hours of classes.

Congratulations! It has been a long time since I took an academic test, but twelve hours…ouch!
