Genetic Testing
CNN.com has a recent article about genetic testing and potential controversies with it.
This is very interesting to me, because my field is very much involved in genetic testing. For example, one of the professors in my department was one of the lead researchers who discovered two genes that are associated with breast cancer susceptibility. And Myriad Genetics, which is based in Salt Lake City, was started by people in my department many years ago. They test people for certain genes, such as the breast cancer ones.
A big part of my field is based around the premise that if a physician knows about a person’s genetic makeup, he/she can provide “personalized medicine.” I may end up doing research around this topic, so I thought I would share.

I’m so fascinated by this field and the potential implications for curing disease – stem cell research too. There’s some Huntington’s Disease in my family and if we could only get to that CAG nucleotide repeat . . .
I linked to you from the engagement announcement. Congratulations!
You’ll never meet a better person than her. You’re tremendously fortunate.
