Buying a Student Laptop (Part 1)
I think I’m going to do something I thought I’d never do–buy a Mac computer.
I’ve always used a PC, and despite the quirks/problems you find in Windows, I never thought I’d make the switch. But Apple has made enough improvements recently to get me to think seriously about switching over to a Mac:
- They recreated their operating system, which is said to be very user friendly (once you get used to it) and to not crash (or gradually slow down over time) like Windows.
- Apple now uses Intel computer chips, which makes it possible to also run Windows on a Mac and run much faster.
- The new Macs use the new dual-core Intel chips that are much faster and consume much less power than the previous alternatives (crucial for a laptop).
I guess I’ll be jumping on the bandwagon. Buying a MacBook (Apple laptop) is becoming the “cool” thing to do.
Just since the beginning of 2006, MacBooks have increased Apple’s market share in laptops from 6% to 12%. That’s huge.
This is the first in a series of blog entries where I’ll take you through the process of my purchasing a laptop for school. I hope it will be of some use to someone else who is going through the same process.
